Used T-shirt, Paper Shopping Bag
In this work, I used t-shirts and paper shopping bags to create an immersive environment that highlights the lived experiences and tragedies of the garment workers and their families. It speaks for the devastating price garment workers all over the world must pay for their survival: battling unsafe working conditions amid the constant threat of factory fires and building collapses that have claimed countless lives. It stands as a metaphor for sacrifices. The very factories that create this mark of identity and produce readymade garments for leading global brands are the same places that endanger and even take lives of the workers who create it. Bangladesh is the world’s second-largest exporter of ready-made garments (Filipenco 2025). Yet the people whose labor drives our economy, their safety is never a concern for the opportunistic class.
